tapping into the real

okay so last friday night i attended the PICA art gallery opening. ive been there a few times and i guess it just keeps getting better and better. on entering we were given free 'feral beer and wine' tickets to claim our freebies. But being the responsible sought, we felt the need to drink wasn't as strong as our thirst for the art about to be revealed! and parched we were! it began in the bar with the usual speech being presented even though one old fart (with all due respect) decided to take to the floor for about 20mins. oh and by 'we' i mean my incredibly talented friend thinh and i. i will post some of his work up soon to give you a tasty. anywhoo after the intro gabble gabble we proceeded to bask in the talent of John Meade's pieces.Employing the rigours of geometry and soft organic form, John Meade works in an intuitive way to materialise his ideas, creating tightly orchestrated pieces that explore the metaphysical, the surreal and the erotic. Tapping into the real and the subconscious, playing with scale and expectation, Meade uses minimalism and messiness, the deliberate and the accidental, to explore extremes of form and intensities of emotion.
i recommend checking out his work along with Leigh Robb 'love of diagrams' at PICA located James street in northbridge.
